Frequently asked questions

  • 30 minutes is typically suited for those with quite a few questions but focusing on the stage of training they are currently in.
  • 45 or 60 minutes is best for those who would like to discuss detailed training plans, do not have any experience dog training, or would like to talk through multiple stages of training – e.g. choosing a dog, beginning scent training, proofing scent training, and live alerts all in the same consultation.

Monthly coaching is designed for those who would like to have a personal DAD trainer who can help throughout the entire process, knowing their situation and their puppy from the start. With coaching, you can have weekly schedules created just for you that include all aspects of training – obedience, scent training, husbandry, outings, and daily life training – to ensure that your dog is set up for success as a Service Dog in all areas and you don’t accidentally overlook an aspect. Additionally, you can email questions at any point, schedule additional video chats, or send videos in to be reviewed to ensure you are on the right track. Coaching is much more of a relationship between the trainer and the client and that allows for more pinpointed and precise suggestions. Coaching is ideal for individuals who would like frequent guidance rather than individual, scheduled calls.

During our consultation I take notes of what topics we discuss, and the recommendations. Within 48 hours of our conversation I will send over a pdf summarizing our conversation so you have a document to refer back to.

If you are just wondering if a Diabetic Dog is the right fit for you, I’d be happy to have a conversation to discuss what to expect or what not to expect, the process of obtaining a Diabetic Alert Dog (whether purchasing, using a nonprofit, or self training), and potential pitfalls.

Or, if you have another type of Service Dog, or even just a pet puppy, I’d be happy to schedule a call to help you and your dog’s training. (For specific task work, my expertise is in Diabetic Alert but I’m happy to help with the public access training of any type of Service Dog).

I’m happy to schedule a call or calls with those who are trainers, wanting to learn more about the industry! Anyone is welcome.
